Ever wonder about the inner workings of Asheville city government? Your chance to find out is coming up. The will host its 2008 Citizens Academy beginning April 10.
Citizens Academy is a 10-week in-depth look at the many functions of local government. The academy gives citizens a behind-the-scenes familiarity with community services, the chance to meet and make connections with other civic-minded residents, and the knowledge and personal contacts to become effective leaders in their neighborhoods, according to a release from the city
The first class — “Ready, Set, GOv!!” — is an introduction to municipal government. Other classes will focus on direct city services such as planning, police and fire protection, street services, economic development and water resources, and will be taught by department directors. Classes will also include hands-on activities and tours.
To apply for Citizens Academy, or for more information about class dates and times, visit the city’s Web site. Contact Trish Hardin at Thardin@ashevillenc.gov or 259-5602 with any questions, or to receive a printed application.
The Asheville Citizens Academy is open to Asheville city residents. Participants will be selected based on leadership potential, reason for involvement, diversity and residency. Applications are due by Friday, March 21, and can be e-mailed to Hardin or mailed to her attention at:
