Want to get your name on the petition circulating to force a referendum on Asheville’s partisan elections issue? The newly formed group Let Asheville Vote will rally, with petitions on hand, on Monday, June 25.
The effort is in response to the recent 4-3 Asheville City Council vote that will bring back partisan elections in Asheville for the first time since 1994.
Let Asheville Vote organizer Mike Fryar broke news of the upcoming rally at City Council’s June 19 meeting and invited Council members to speak at the event — even extending the invitation to Democrats Brownie Newman, Bryan Freeborn, Holly Jones and Robin Cape, the four Council memebrs whose votes mandated the ballot change.
The rally will be held at City/County Plaza on Monday, June 25, from 6 to 9 p.m. In order to put the issue to a vote by Asheville citizens, the group must get 5,000 signatures by July 15. “It’s their vote,” Fryer told Council, in reference to the city’s population. “Not four people, but 60,000 people.”

It’s important that we silence Robin Cape before she says something that makes my head explode.
Recall Cape in ’07!
