Presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama will speak at a campaign rally this Sunday at Asheville High School, according to a statement from his campaign. The event will be free and open to the public.
The rally will be held in Asheville High’s Memorial Stadium, where gates will open at noon. The event is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. Tickets will not be required, but the campaign requests that attendees RSVP through Obama’s Web site.
Obama will be in Asheville to practice for next Tuesday’s presidential debate, to be held in Nashville, against Sen. John McCain. This will be Obama’s first public appearance in Asheville.
Recent polls have indicated that Obama has a narrow lead or is tied with McCain in North Carolina.

Huzzah! Nice work, David.
Yeah!! I’ll be there!
I’m bringing my daughters!
You Tireless Gatherers of Stuff We Should Have, you diligent folk, what would we do without you? Fresh off the VP debate, I could use something substantive to chew on.
Recent polls? What recent polls?
I will be there. Look for me wearing the Obama shirt. You can’t miss me.
Rasmussen, for one.
Intrade (which i trust way more than ‘objective’ polls) shows North Carolina still McCain with a slim margin of majority over Obama even though the gap has closed in this past week.
Yeah tim, the PPP poll is at ScruHoo:
Hopefully, most of the polls are slanted toward McCain right now, as I doubt if they’re calling young voters on their cellphones.
Tim,
A good question. Here are the polls behind that statement in the post:
Rasmussen Reports from Sept. 30 showed Obama leading by 50 to 47 percent in NC. A previous Rasmussen poll on Sept. 23 showed Obama leading 47 to 45.
Public Policy Polling released a poll on Sept. 29 showing Obama leading 47/45.
Meanwhile, a Civitas poll released Sept. 22 found the race tied 45/45.
this is some typical asheville shit…..we have a UNIVERSITY here. why is obama not speaking there? asheville really needs to get it together and recognize the great university in their own town. hey we’re seeing obama…where? asheville high? real classy…..
How many people would UNCA hold Stacy? How is this not “classy”?
What’s your deal, Stacy? Asheville High School is a marquis public school with beautiful grounds that are easily secured.
I think it’s a great site for the rally!
Jeff, as long as Billy Clinton isn’t there, your daughters will be safe.
I wonder who Barack is goin to announce as his next sectretary of state. Bill Ayers or Rev Wright?Minister of defense? Osama bin Laden or that nutcase who runs Iran? Im votin for a real American, John McCain.
Marcia: “I wonder who Barack is goin (sic) to announce as his next sectretary (sic) of state. Bill Ayers… ”
This one is for all the folks bothered by Obama’s past association with former Weather Underground member and now respected university professor, Bill Ayers:
With friends like these… McCain finds his own radical friend

Marcia, when are you and Sarah going to talk about belonging to an Alaskan separatist organization?
With you being your so worried about Bill Ayers who was never convicted, isn’t it fair to talk about how Sarah Palin was truly anti American enough at one point to the have actually joined such an organization?
Also while were on the subject if the GOP and you are so proper and moral how can you embrace the adulterer John McCain? Remember he cheated on his fist wife continually and he has admitted it.
Sundance,
While Palin is creepy in so many ways, this isn’t exactly one of them.
“Palin was never a member of the Alaskan Independence Party – which calls for a vote on whether Alaska should secede from the union or remain a state – despite mistaken reports to the contrary. But her husband was a member for years…
… Palin registered to vote in the state for the first time in May 1982 as a Republican and hasn’t changed her party affiliation since.
… As governor, Palin sent a video message to the 2008 (AIP) convention, which is available on YouTube, and the AIP says she attended in 2006 when she was campaigning.”
http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/sliming_palin.html
Well Vrede I stand corrected but Marcia wants to equate association with guilt so it is a fair question and open to Scrutney just like Ayers and Reverend Wright are to Obama. In my mind a husband belonging to the AIP would be a lot closer then a neighbor and carry a lot more influence.
If the GOP folks are going to continue down this path rather then talk about the issues which are more important they need to come clean on their dirty laundry and expect for it to be open to public attention.
I see you completely avoided the adulterer question in regards to the GOP embracing him yet its alright for the GOP to have a witch hunt over it in the 90’s.
oooh! We’re playing the Guilt by Association game? Awesome.
Let’s start with McCain campaign contributor since 1988, G. Gordon Liddy. “Liddy served four and a half years in prison in connection with his conviction for his role in the Watergate break-in and the break-in at the office of the psychiatrist of Daniel Ellsberg, the military analyst who leaked the Pentagon Papers. Liddy has acknowledged preparing to kill someone during the Ellsberg break-in “if necessary”; plotting to murder journalist Jack Anderson; plotting with a “gangland figure” to murder Howard Hunt to stop him from cooperating with investigators; plotting to firebomb the Brookings Institution; and plotting to kidnap “leftist guerillas” at the 1972 Republican National Convention — a plan he outlined to the Nixon administration using terminology borrowed from the Nazis.”
This game is fun!
Sundance,
I avoided the adulterer question because it’s true, though I don’t believe McCain’s sex life is relevant.
I believe that we Obama supporters must hold ourselves to a higher standard of truthful, fair discourse, or we become just as bad as the McCain folks.
I agree Vrede but….that nice GOP party frowns on adultery so to embrace and anoint someone like John McCain as the exalted leader is completely hypercritical and irrational and they want to talk about Obama’s character and credibility?
Gordon you also forgot to mention that Liddy also advocated shooting FBI agents in the head on his radio show and the last time McCain was on his show….McCain called him a dear old Friend……and these folks want to talk about Ayers/Obama?
But the bickering and attacking just put’s people like “Marcia’s” back against the wall and makes them more entrenched in their own political choices.
The Republicans have had a field day with the distraction game thus far.
Issues? What issues?
well Dave I think that this time the little Republican smoke and mirrors game is not working and in someways I attribute it to their down fall and part of the reason McCain is sinking in the polls and in a round about way he has Mrs. “Sentences to Nowhere” Palin to thank for it
:-)
Obama is all talk and no taco. B.s. artist reminescent of a certain charasmatic speaker in germany in the early 1930s. And everyone knows that didn’t turn out well.
Marcia did you ever manage to go here to find out what your candidate is all about??
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/oped/chi-oped0504chapmanmay04,0,3136852.column
Marcia,
Well, actually, that “charasmatic speaker” made, somewhat indirectly, the US the first World Super-Power, so we could say that DID turn out well, but I digress.
Unless, of course you are referring to Heinrich Heine, who said something to the effect of: “The men of action are, after all, the uncommon instruments of the men of thought.”
Those videos I’m seeing of child choirs and teens dressed in military fatigues singing and chanting Obama’s praises…am I the only one who’s creeped out?
Can anyone tell me if Obama performed any miracles? Any donkeys or camels appear out of whole cloth? Did he walk on water? Obama is an empty suit used car salesman with a gift of gab. He has no resume that makes him presidential material. John McCain does have a resume. A good one. Y’all vote McCain/Palin now ya’hear!
Al are you out of your mind…Keating Five…Gordon Liddy…..you can’t be a Maverick when your a sidekick and vote with “W” Dumb ass over 90% of the time or do what special interest tell you to do rather then the citizens of this country.
If Obama is a used car salesman then McCain is a Fuller Brush salesman or a Rainbow Vacuum
Cleaner salesman.
Al-
Do you just change names instead of addressing the questions asked of your previous pseudonym?
Sundance-
MAVERICK!!!
It is clear that sundance is so drunk on Obama-koolaid that she can’t see straight. Obama reminds me of a certain politician who wowed the populace in the 1930s…in Germany. We all know that one didn’t turnout well. And it was a socialist party too, National Socialist.
