Local businesses awarded for service, innovation

With a couple hundred or so people in attendance, the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce feted six local companies on Feb. 20 for being tops in the areas of customer and community service, as well as for innovation.

The second annual “We’re for Business!” awards, held at the Grove Park Inn, started the day with 32 nominees in three major categories: The “Over the Top” Amazing Customer Service Award; the “One for All” Outstanding Commitment to Community Award; and the “Out on a Limb” Exceptionally Innovative Business Award. Each category honored two companies based on company size.

The six winners:

Over the Top:
Shoji Retreats – a local Japanese-influenced spa

Charlotte Street Animal Hospital

One for All:
The Buyer’s Agent of Asheville – a local realty firm

Diamond Brand – a local outdoors outfitter

Out on a Limb:
Advanced Composting Technologies – a local large-scale supplier of composting know-how for agricultural and other clients

Palmer Wahl – a local supplier of thermometers and thermal-imaging technology
