The Quick Dish with Lexington Avenue Brewery Chef Mike Fisera

Anyone who has eaten at Lexington Avenue Brewery knows that in spite of its name the place is not just about the beer. Xpress recently talked with LAB’s chef, Mike Fisera, about inspiration, outside-the-box beer dinners and his upcoming face-off with King James Public House chef Steven Goff in the Fire on the Rock Competition Dining Series. Rebuilding Dreams

Roxann Colwell knows the challenges of raising a child with special needs firsthand. Colwell, who has a 30-year-old daughter with Down syndrome, created the Family Support Network of Western North Carolina 15 years ago as a parent-to-parent support and mentoring program for caregivers of children with special needs. The organization offers a community resource guide, hosts support groups for families and establishes support networks for parents whose children have received similar diagnoses. From July 2012 to July 2013 the Family Support Network served 901 families.

In response to parents’ concerns over the quality and nutrition of food served in Asheville City Schools for breakfast and lunch, the Hall Fletcher Parent Teacher Organization’s Nutrition Committee will host a community meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, at Hall Fletcher Elementary.

Spring for the Mission

As the days grow longer and the sun shines a little brighter, many of us have our sights set on that first day of spring. The Mission for Temporal Art (MTA) in Marshall is also looking toward that seasonal benchmark. The newly formed arts organization will launch their Spring Equinox Extravaganza on Friday and Saturday, March 21 and 22.

French Broad Chocolate Lounge announces move to new location

“For six years, residents and visitors of our fair city have come for chocolate and fellowship to French Broad Chocolate Lounge at 10 South Lexington Avenue. This, our original location, has served us very well, despite the building’s age and unique quirks. The summer of this year, 2014, will be our last in this spot! We have signed a 10 year lease to relocate French Broad Chocolate Lounge around the corner on Pack Square! This spring, we are renovating the first floor of the historic Legal Building, formally SunTrust Bank, to be our permanent home.”
