Blue Ridge Watermedia Society had their first meeting in October of 1993 thanks to the efforts of six Haywood County painters: Crystal Allen, Jan Daggy, Jean Mayhew, Colleen Neighbere, Dot Ward and Adele Wilkins. They felt the county needed an organization to foster the appreciation and enjoyment of watermedia painting and to encourage area artists in the pursuit of better art, regardless of their skill level.
The purpose of the Blue Ridge Watermedia Society remains to inform and educate the general public through exhibitions, lectures and workshops by nationally known artists.
President Donna Farnsworth shares, “Several years ago, when I first moved to Haywood County, I joined the Blue Ridge Watermedia Society to meet fellow artists. I was warmly welcomed … . I appreciate the broad range of talent in the group, and I am inspired and encouraged by other artists I now call friends. By participating in rotating leadership positions, I have become acquainted with many fine artists and there are social events that have added many fun experiences to my life.”
Monthly meetings are held at the First Baptist Church, 100 South Main St., in Waynesville. Accomplished watercolor artist Pat Weaver will provide the demonstration at the next meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 19, starting at 6:45 p.m. For membership information, contact Sandi Riggs at 627-9666.
