It’s Easter weekend. The perfect time to get all hopped up on Cadbury Creme Eggs and dance the holiday away to some great tunes. We’ve got you covered. From rag time and indie rock to Christian folk and all-girl punk, there’s something for almost everyone in this round up (and, as usual, nothing over $5 at the door).
Thursday, April 9
• Start the weekend early (it’s a holiday weekend, after all) with ragtime and vintage blues from Woody Pines (pictured). The happy hour show at French Broad Brewery (101 Fairview Rd., Asheville, 277-0222) kicks off at 6 p.m. and is free.
• Stick with the swing: The Space Heaters play a 9 p.m. show at Bobo Galley (22 Lexington Ave., Asheville, 254-3426). $5
Friday, April 10
• Asheville’s Torches holds a CD release party at The Boiler Room (11 Grove St., Asheville, 505-1612) with Yonder North, Fairground, and The Lillies & Sparrows. $5 for all the festivities.
• Atlanta’s Newberry Jam plays a free set at the Root Bar (1410 Tunnel Rd, Asheville, 299-7597) with Catalyst and Ty-vicious. 9 p.m.
• Asheville’s Good Old Boyz featuring Woody Wood (Hollywood Red, The Blue Rags), Scott Sharpe (Crackerjack, The Blue Rags), Richard Foulk (Sons of Ralph) and David Connor Jones (Custard Pie) play outlaw country at Jack of the Wood (95 Patton Ave. 252-5445) Friday night. Cover is $5.
• Punk trio Blitch! put in a 9 p.m. appearance at The Shovelhead Saloon (304 Hwy 70, Black Mountain, 669-9541). Cover is $5.
Saturday, April 11
• Christian folk artist Cliff Rubin gears up for a free 6 p.m. set at Picnics (371 Merrimon Ave., Asheville, 258-2858).
• Bluegrass act QuarterHouse plays for donations at 7:30 p.m. at Feed & Seed (3715 Hendersonville Rd., Fletcher, 216-3492).
• Powerpop trio Bugs Multiply take part in the first Coma Gun Records Showcase and Party at The Rocketclub (404 Haywood Rd., West Asheville, 505-2494). The event includes food, fun and three bands (also on the bill: New Killer Stars from the Netherlands Charlotte’s Lamb Handler). 8 p.m. start time, $5 cover.
• S.C.-based acoustic musician Alan Barrington performs at the Town Pump (135 Cherry St., Black Mountain, 669-4808). 9 p.m., $5.
• Joshua Hastings & the Funky Four Corners (self-proclaimed “originators of Funkabilly”) take the stage at Westville Pub (777 Haywood Rd., West Asheville, 225-9782) at 9:30 p.m. $4 at the door.
• Horsehoe Productions lists—on its Myspace page—a 12:30 a.m. (that’s just past midnight) “MiniTour Afterparty” featuring Asheville’s Spy Satellite and Greenville’s The Charming Youngsters. The by-donation concert is sandwiched between two Greenville, N.C. shows and no location is given. If you find it, let us know where the event takes place.
