Several South Slope neighbors held fun Asheville Beer Week events May 27: Early in the evening there was a cornhole tournament at Asheville Brewing, Twin Leaf, Hi-Wire and Greenman breweries followed by a “Beer Carnival” at Ben’s Tuneup.
At Asheville Brewing, Randy Lowe and Lucas Grasty completely dominated the Cornhole competition, going undefeated against a lineup of opponents, some of whom barely even scored any points against the dynamic duo (embarrassingly, this reporter was among their scoreless challengers).
Next door, the beer garden at Ben’s was full of revelers enjoying drafts on tap from a dozen breweries, including Left Hand Brewing Co.’s Smokejumper smoked imperial porter and Great Divide’s oak-aged Yeti imperial stout. The courtyard was also overtaken by roaming carnival acts such as jugglers, fire dancers and aerial artists. A DJ kept a big crowd dancing late into the night.
