The local music scene has always been hard to typify, and that’s not getting any easier. Rock and pop, folk and electronic, experimental and traditional. But it all works — and not only does it work in the context of the region’s multifaceted sound, but in a single playlist. This week’s songs include:
• “Stickshifts and Safetybelts” from Simple Little Town by bluegrass outfit Unspoken Tradition. That band plays Groovin on the Green in Cashiers on Friday, Aug. 15.
• “In My Car,” by garage-rockers Reigning Sound, who will perform at The Mothlight on Saturday, July 26.
• “PUF//FIN,” from More Songs About Animals and TV by surreal pop duo Alligator Indian.
• “The Wave that Lost the Sea,” by indie-pop project Night’s Bright Colors. The song is from the Late Bloomers album.
• “One Bright Boat,” from Americana singer-songwriter Moses Atwood’s album of the same name. Atwood probably isn’t playing any shows in the near future since he’s on his honeymoon! Congratulations, Moses.
• “That’s Where I Belong,” a track from bluegrass artist Bryan Sutton‘s new album, Into My Own. Sutton holds an album release show at Isis Restaurant & Music Hall on Friday, July 11.
