CHICAGO, IL – Dr. Jeff Todd of Noah’s Ark Companion Animal Hospital in Franklin, NC has been named a finalist in the “America’s Favorite Veterinarian” contest by the American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF). Established in 2013, this contest honors and recognizes those entrusted to preserve and protect the health and well-being of animals. It strives to spotlight veterinarian’s pivotal role in society as medical professionals in research labs, in public health and agriculture, and in government services and academia.
Dr. Jeff Todd is the owner and Medical Director of Noah’s Ark Companion Animal Hospital and his 501c3 organization, Noah’s Ark Humane Society. Through his non-profit, he coordinates a twice monthly low cost spay/neuter clinics, and low cost walk in clinics for income qualified families. He also works with local animal control on cruelty and neglect cases that come into his shelter. He transports adoptable dogs out of the county monthly to Saving Grace, a very successful adoption program in Wake Forest, NC.
“I’ve become acutely aware of the depth of the emotional relationship that clients have with their pets and how vital that relationship can be to a client’s physical and emotional health. On any given day, I can go in and help preserve that bond, “says Dr. Todd “The patient thanks you, and the humans attached to them are deeply grateful. I really am very fortunate. I’ve been doing this for 32 years, and I still absolutely love coming to work every day.”
This year, the public is invited to cast their vote to name “America’s Favorite Veterinarian.” Through online channels everyone is encouraged to support the special veterinarian in their lives by voting. The 20 finalists were selected by an AVMF review panel from more than 700 nominations submitted by clients who are asked to include a brief essay explaining why their veterinarian deserves recognition for his or her work. A committee of judges comprising staff and board members from the AVMF, the charitable arm of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), evaluates the veterinarians based on the nominator’s essay and the veterinarian’s responses to questions about their practice and professional philosophy. Community involvement, ethical behavior, passion for their profession, and their connections to animals and their owners also are taken into consideration.
“America’s Favorite Veterinarian” will be announced September 2014. The winner will receive a $500 cash prize, a trip to the2015 AVMA convention in Boston, a year feature on the AVMF website and a community celebration at his or her clinic for his or her staff and clients. In addition, the selected veterinarian will have the opportunity to become a spokesperson for the AVM,) expand the discussion about his or her work to a broader audience , grow his or her practice, promote veterinary medicine as a career, and educate the public about the role veterinarians play in society; beyond the clinic.
