After only a year as a band, Brooklyn’s Yeasayer garnered national attention following their 2007 South by Southwest performance. They went on to tour with both Beck and MGMT (I’m totally jealous) and performed a concert on the Paris metro. (Having recently spent some time on the Paris metro, I would have paid a good bit to hear Yeasayer instead of the guy who would get on the train with a PA in a rolling bag and then play along to recorded music with his clarinet.)
Yeasayer describes its sound as “Middle Eastern-psych-snap-gospel” which, surprisingly, has not hindered the band’s ability to place songs in prominent places. Like on 90210, America’s Next Top Model and The Good Wife.
Yeasayer’s third full-length, Fragrant World is set for an Aug. 20 release. Luckily for fans, the band is touring in advance of that album. The Fragrant World Tour brings them to the The Orange Peel on Wednesday, June 20. 9 p.m. show; Delicate Steve opens. $20 advance or $22 day of show.
Watch a (weird) video for “Madder Red” from Yeasayer’s 2010 Odd Blood:
