From a press release:

UNCA interim chancellor Doug Orr discuss new book, Nov. 18

Doug Orr, UNC Asheville interim chancellor, will discuss his new book, Wayfaring Strangers: The Musical Voyage from Scotland and Ulster to Appalachia (UNC Press, 2014), in a free public talk at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18, in the Humanities Lecture Hall on campus.

Co-authored by Orr and Fiona Richie, the host of NPR’s popular Celtic music program, “The Thistle and Shamrock,” Wayfaring Strangers traces musical roots across oceans and time, linking people and songs through centuries of adaptation and change.

A musician and cultural historian as well as a leader in higher education, Orr founded the annual folk arts workshop, The Swannanoa Gathering, when he was president of Warren Wilson College. Orr expertly connects local people and history with the larger history of cultural cross-pollination between the Celtic isles and Appalachia.

Orr’s talk is sponsored by the UNC Asheville’s Department of History, to honor the newly-initiated members of Phi Alpha Theta, the history honor society. For more information contact Ellen Pearson, associate professor of history, at 828.251.6651.
