It’s starting to become a common occurrence: Another week, another excellent Asheville chef sees national recognition. This time it’s Gan Shan Station’s Chris Hathcock‘s turn, receiving a nomination for Eater’s Young Guns of 2015. With over 50 nominees from across the United States, Hathcock slips in at number 13 and is the only chef from North Carolina to have made the list.
This is Hathcock’s second nomination for the award having received a nod and a profile from Eater in 2014 for his work at the highly praised Two Burroughs Larder in Charleston, S.C. Having worked his way through the kitchens of Savannah, Ga., and Atlanta’s Empire State South, the 28-year-old chef relocated from Charleston with Patrick O’Cain to open the popular Gan Shan Station this past winter, focusing on pan-Asian cuisine and bringing along a reputation of quality that is readily evident in his cooking.
Beginning this week, Eater will begin profiling all 50 of the nominees, so Hathcock’s should be just around the corner. Winners will be announced June 8.
Mmm, So sexy.
