During this season’s run of shows at Diana Wortham Theatre, Terpsicorps Theatre of Dance founder Heather Malloy announced a new initiative: The local company plans to open The Academy at Terpsiorps, an affordable dance school for students of all ages. Donations totaling $32,000 have already been made toward the $40,000 goal to start the academy.

Amazing things CAN happen!
Just when you feel like all is lost, there is that moment where the fighting instinct kicks in and miracles happen. No more talking about what a bad year this has been, because that year is officially over. Lets move on to the 14th Season, the year when Terpsicorps decidedly implanted itself more permanently into the community by creating a year round presence and inspiring a new generation of dancers.I stepped out on stage a mere 11 days ago and announced that we have made the decision to start an academy that offers affordable dance classes of the same diverse and inspirational nature that Terpsicorps’ performances are known for. This non-profit school will serve students of all ages and skill levels, offer need based scholarships to young dancers of all backgrounds, present aspiring pre-professionals the ideal environment in which to thrive and make accessible to the existing dance community a space in which to present small informal performances on a stage the size of the Diana Wortham Theatre!
Within that announcement last Thursday evening, I let the audience know that it would take at least $40,000 to bring this beautiful vision to life. To date, between mail in and online donations, we have received $32,000 towards that goal! Only $8,000 left to go!
