David LaMotte releases his “Best of” album at the White Horse
The release of a “best of” compilation signals a certain stature and longevity in the music world, but can also imply that an artist’s best work might be behind them. Nothing could be farther removed from the reality of the busy and varied career of Montreat’s David LaMotte, an artist with an impressive resumé who’s also very much engaged in the present and future. He celebrates the release of “The Best of David LaMotte” at the White Horse Black Mountain on Saturday, November 23 at 8 p.m.
David LaMotte is an award-winning songwriter and activist for peace and social justice issues on the local, national and international stage. He’s also the author of a children’s book, The S.S.Bathtub, based on his song of the same name, and has two additional titles for children and adults in the works. White Flour, a classic LaMotte take on the power of humor and humanity over hate, is based on the true story of the Coup Clutz Clowns’ nonviolent triumph over the Klan at a 2007 Knoxville rally.
Through his touring and performances spanning nearly two decades his dedicated audiences are familiar with his warm stage presence, deft guitar playing, engaging voice and thought provoking lyrics. LaMotte’s ability to connect is evident in the roster of respected artists that will share the stage at his White Horse CD release: Sara Moore, ace percussionist River Guerguerian, Chris Rosser, Joshua Messick and BJ Leiderman of NPR fame will all be on hand.
The Wilhelm Brothers, who take their guitar and cello based original songs to unexpected places, with open the show. Music starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $18 in advance at whitehorseblackmountain.com/2012/12/calendar-listings.html or $20 at the door.
