Call for entries for Runaway Runway 2014
The Columbia Design League, a membership affiliate of the Columbia Museum of Art, is now accepting entries for the seventh annual Runaway Runway: A Recycled Fashion Show. The deadline for entering the design competition is Friday, March 21, 2014. Entry is open to everyone and each entry in the competition costs $30, with a reduced $15 rate for student designers. There is no limit to the number of designs that can be submitted by a designer. All designers must register online or at the front desk of the Columbia Museum of Art. The design competition is limited to 60 entries and entries are accepted on a first come, first served basis. All designers must be available for a mandatory rehearsal on Sunday, March 30, 2014 from 2:00-4:00 p.m.
Runaway Runway is a design competition in which designers re-imagine post-consumer trash into ultra-creative, sustainable fashion treasures. The event is Columbia’s premiere spring fashion show and highlights the value of recycling and living green. This fun and funky event attracts a wide audience–from the young, hip, and creative to long-time patrons of the arts in Columbia.
“Runaway Runway is a unique opportunity for anyone who loves design to hone their creativity and practice sustainability in a wildly fun way,” says Elizabeth Nkuo Johnson, President of the Columbia Design League. “We’re always thrilled to see what designers dream up each year. It’s never the same show twice. ”
Runaway Runway: A Recycled Fashion Show takes place on Saturday, April 5, 2014 from 8:00 – 10:00 p.m. at the Township Auditorium. Judges for this year’s event include Gwen Rawls, Italian shoe boutique owner and entrepreneur; Lisa Arnold, fashionista blogger; Victoria Cooke, Curator at the Columbia Museum of Art; and, Rasa Don, Grammy award-winning musician and producer. Judging criteria include: design, material re-use, construction, quality, overall effect and appeal, as well as live runway modeling of the entry.
This fundraiser allows the Columbia Design League to bring speakers from around the nation and around the corner to engage, challenge, and inspire us all to appreciate the impact of design on our lives. Join the Columbia Design League and become a part of Columbia’s dynamic community of citizens who are working for a brighter future by good design. Design League membership is $15 per adult or $25 per couple in addition to Columbia Museum of Art membership.
