Mayor Manheimer proclaims Thursday to be “Meatout Day” in Asheville

Mayor Manheimer has signed a proclamation stating Thursday, March 20 is Meatout Day in Asheville. This is not an invitation to pig out on barbecue. Rather, the proclamation encourages locals to “to explore a wholesome diet of vegetables, fresh fruits and whole grains” as part of a national campaign led by meatout.org. Charlotte, Baltimore and Dallas are among the other cities who have made the pledge to forgo meat for a day.

Meatout is an international observance helping individuals evolve to a wholesome, compassionate diet of fruits, vegetables, whole grains. The purpose is to expose the public to the joys and benefits of a plant-based
diet, while promoting the availability and selection alternatives to meat and dairy in mainstream grocery stores, restaurants, and catering operations.
