Blue Ridge Parkway After Hours Hike: “Wilderness In Your Backyard”
(Asheville, N.C.) – Join Parkway rangers at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 16th for an easy, 1.5-mile hike that is right in Asheville’s backyard. Come learn about how the Blue Ridge Parkway and the many trails throughout the area can affect plant and animal life. Find out how you can help ease the strain that habitat fragmentation places on the environment.
Meet at the Folk Art Center (Milepost 382) near the flagpole. Wear good walking shoes, bring water and prepare for our ever-changing weather. For more information, contact (828) 298-5330, ext. 304. This hike is open to the public and free of charge.
Blue Ridge Parkway Hike of the Week: “Peak at the Pinnacle”
(Asheville, NC) – It’s the middle of June, and that means the Catawba rhododendron should be flaunting their flowers up around Craggy Gardens. But there’s more to the Parkway than beautiful blooms — from the views to the rare plants to the occasional salamander, the whole Parkway is alive this time of year! Join Parkway rangers at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 17th for a 1.4 mile, moderate hike to the top of Craggy Pinnacle and see for yourself.
Meet at Craggy Dome Parking Overlook, Milepost 364.1. Bring water, wear good walking shoes and be prepared for changeable weather. For more information, contact (828) 298-5330, ext. 304. This hike is open to the public and free of charge.
