PRESS RELEASE:
State legislators to attend events in honor of Haywood County Public Library’s 125th anniversary
Both Representative Michele Presnell and Representative Joe Sam Queen have confirmed that they will be attending upcoming events in honor of Haywood County Public Library’s (HCPL) 125th anniversary, which is being celebrated this September throughout Haywood County.
To commemorate the library’s milestone anniversary, HCPL will host authors and performers who reflect our western North Carolina mountain heritage, and will partner with the Haywood County Arts Council to exhibit historical and literary works of art at each library branch.
The headlining events the Representatives will be attending this September are: an evening with acclaimed poet and former North Carolina Poet Laureate Fred Chappell on Thursday, Sept. 8, at 5:30 p.m.at the Colonial Theater in Canton and a performance by celebrated North Carolina storyteller Donald Davis on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 6 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Waynesville. Both renowned North Carolina sons hail from Haywood County.
Western Regional Director for the Governor April Riddle will also be in attendance at the Sept. 20 event featuring Donald Davis. Riddle is scheduled to read a proclamation by the Governor’s office in recognition of HCPL’s 125th anniversary.
We invite you to join in the celebration. HCPL plays a critical role in leveling the playing field for all in our community by opening up a world of possibilities to local citizens through information and technology access. HCPL has proudly served as a community anchor for the last 125 years. For more information on the library’s special 125th anniversary events, visit haywoodlibrary.libguides.com/125anniversary.
