Buncombe County’s last election in question has been settled. The District 2 seat on the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners was subject to a recount by state law, as incumbent Republican Mike Fryar had a slim lead of 307 votes over Democratic challenger Nancy Nehls Nelson.
The Buncombe County Board of Elections started the recount process earlier this week and concluded on Friday, Dec. 9. The results expanded Fryar’s lead to 317 votes, with Fryar receiving 22,479 votes and Nehls Nelson earning 22,162 votes.
Nehls Nelson offered the following statement:
“I congratulate Mike Fryar on his re-election. During the campaign, I logged hundreds of miles in District 2 talking to voters about their top concerns for Buncombe County. Across the board, I heard a strong desire to make sure our public schools are adequately funded and that everyone has access to the services they need, like the Family Justice Center. I also heard the desire to protect our quality of life and beautiful mountains as we grow our county economy. I intend to share these comments with the Board of Commissioners to make sure their voices are heard. I intend to continue being an advocate for our residents and their families.”
Fryar will be serving his second term on the board.
Yes! Congratulations to a worthy public servant, Mr. Fryar!
hey Nancy…get a clue…the government screwls are way over funded already…encourage people to get their children outta there
if they really love their children …
Wait, what? Schools are over-funded? I disagree, but assuming that’s true then why would you remove your children from a institution with excess resources? Talk about needing to get a clue!?!?
Oh good. Four more years of pissing off Ellen Frost.
Oh good. Four more years of timpeck being a terrible, friendless, despised stain upon the planet.
LOL, the swamp will be drained loon. The rich/poor gap locally can only be ignored by the cronies like you only for so long. And given only token postures and false proclamations. Eventually they’ll wake up from their stupor and realize it’s the leftist who are their adversaries. Who tax them into poverty. Who regulate their lives into oblivion. Who hire illegals to their detriment. Who push gentrification while pushing them into homelessness. It’s coming.
Oh, look, a change of subject. For joy.
