Asheville Zine Fest is gearing up for another celebration of independent publishing with an exhibition for independent publishers, small press and creators of zines, comics, chapbooks, anthologies, pamphlets, and other ephemera. After a successful first year, the fest returns on Sunday, May 7th to the Refinery Creator Space; a bigger and brighter venue with space for more vendors and visitors. The fest will be free and open to the public from 11-4pm.
New to this year are pre-fest events taking place on Saturday, May 6th at Downtown Books and News, a sponsor of the fest. We’ll kick off with a zine making workshop at 3:30pm given by the makers of Talismanic Potato, a food and culture zine from Asheville, NC, followed by zine readings with vendors/exhibitors starting at 5:00pm. All pre-fest events are free and open to the public.
The line up of 40+ vendors represent creative voices from Asheville, our WNC neighbors, and even as far as Indiana, Kansas, and California. We are happy to welcome returning favorites like I.R. Harris, Pioneers Press, and Nathanael Roney as well as new friends Sebastien Matthews, Aggie Toppins, PM Press and many more. We are also pleased to have returning Woolly Press, another zine fest sponsor and the designers and printers of this year’s zine fest posters.
