Press release from UNC Asheville:
Contributing writers to UNC Asheville’s Great Smokies Review literary magazine will share their works when the monthly Writers at Home series has its final public reading of the spring at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 21, at Malaprop’s Bookstore/Café, 55 Haywood St., in downtown Asheville. This event, hosted by UNC Asheville’s Great Smokies Writing Program, is free and open to everyone.
This month’s Writers at Home will feature:
- Grey Jones, guest editor for the spring issue of the Great Smokies Review, who will present his two Editor’s Choice contributing writers, Audra Coleman and Jeanne Howe;
- Dodd Ellsworth, computer professional, jazz composer, and writer of creative non-fiction;
- Rita Marks, former author of book reviews for The Republican newspaper in Springfield, Mass., who will share her own fiction;
- Rebecca Wallace-Aktas, a Charlotte resident who comes to the mountains to be part of the Asheville writing community and will share her short fiction;
- Joyce Thornburg, a visual artist with a working studio in the River Arts District who also cultivates a passion for poetry.
The Great Smokies Review is issued twice annually and the spring issue, slated for online publication on May 10, will be available at thegreatsmokiesreview.org.
After going on hiatus for the summer, Writers at Home will return in September with poet and essayist Richard Chess reading from his new book, Love Nailed to the Doorstep, and will continue with more readings by local writers the third Sunday of each month.
