Press release from the City of Asheville:
To address the need for affordable housing, Asheville City Council included $25 million for housing in the voter-approved $74 million bond package passed in November. The City’s aim is to make City-owned land available affordable housing and increase funding for new affordable housing via the Housing Trust Fund.
The City of Asheville had a 2.7 percent rental housing vacancy rate in 2016, up from the 1 percent from 2014, upgrading the situation from a housing crisis to a shortage.
In anticipation of bond funds being issued, City Council has allocated $10 million of the General Obligation Housing Bond in direct project investment. The Housing and Community Development Committee has made recommendations for a breakdown of that $10 million. Now we are seeking community input!
Come get information about this initiative and provide your comments from 6-7 p.m. Aug. 8 at the Dr. Wesley Grant Sr. Southside Center, 285 Livingston St.
