In the aftermath of Charlottesville’s deadly white supremacist rally, anarchists and anti-fascists seem to be getting a lot of attention. President Donald Trump commented on their fashion choices: “They show up in the helmets and the black masks, and they’ve got clubs and they’ve got everything.” Meanwhile, prominent intellectual Cornel West, present for the demonstration, credited them with preventing a bloodbath: “We would have been crushed like cockroaches if it were not for the anarchists and the anti-fascists.” So who are these mysterious members of the resistance, and what are they up to when they aren’t punching nazis?

From noon to 3pm, organizers from nearly a dozen anarchist groups will distribute materials, answer questions, and share a free vegetarian meal with attendees in downtown Asheville’s Pritchard Park. Participating organizations include Appalachian Medical Solidarity, Hawthorn Community Herb Collective, Food Not Bombs, Asheville IWW, Blue Ridge General Defense Committee, Carolina Mountain Redneck Revolt, Asheville Prison Books Program, J20 Defendants, Smoky Mountain Eco Defense, and Strangers In A Tangled Wilderness.
