Julie Armbruster Debuts “Parallel Play” in Sept. 14 Art Opening at Asheville School

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (August 24, 2017) Asheville artist Julie Armbruster creates imaginative, often eccentric characters who speak volumes to observers through her unique illustrative style. On Thursday, September 14, join Armbruster for an opening of her newest exhibition, “Parallel Play,” in Asheville School’s John M. Crawford Art Gallery.

Asheville School will host Armbruster for an opening reception and interactive installation from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

“I am a mixed media painter, working with graphite, acrylic, ink, and epoxy resin to create a catalogue of images that convey my perceptions,” Armbruster writes in her artist statement. “Images are often repeated, developing conclusions that point to the unnatural and destructive behavior of humanity, whose collective view insists on being the exception to the laws of nature. My most recent work delves further into the imaginative world of the individual characters and their personal struggle to understand their unique potential.”

John M. Crawford Art Gallery Curator Casey Arbor is excited to host Armbruster’s new work. “It is through her repeated characters that we may come to see our own struggles and evolution as individuals within this complicated world,” Arbor said. “There is no doubt in my mind that Julie’s exhibition will provoke thoughtful and fantastical contemplation for all who view the artwork.”

The exhibit will also feature collaborative work between Armbruster, printmaker Rosy Kirby and illustrator Fian Arroyo.

Armbruster’s work has been featured in exhibitions across the east coast and is in permanent public collections at the Mission Children’s Hospital and the United Way building in Asheville, North Carolina. You can find directions to Asheville School here and if you have any questions, contact Casey Arbor<mailto:arborc@ashevilleschool.org> at 828-254-6345 ext. 4037.

“Parallel Play” will hang in the John M. Crawford Art Gallery until Tuesday, October 31. Guests are welcome to tour the gallery from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays, and all guests should check-in with the receptionist in Mitchell Hall.
