Walk to End Alzheimer’s® – Asheville
This inspiring event calls on participants of all ages and abilities to join the fight against the disease. Participants will complete a 2-mile walk and will learn about Alzheimer’s disease, advocacy opportunities, clinical studies enrollment and support programs and services from the Alzheimer’s Association.

EVENT HIGHLIGHTS/PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES:
Walk participants will also join in a meaningful Promise Garden tribute ceremony to honor those affected by Alzheimer’s disease. The day will include fun, all-ages entertainment and family-friendly music.

The Alzheimer’s Association – Western Carolina Chapter hosts fourteen walks across central and western North Carolina during the months of September and October. The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s® is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support, and research. Since 1989, the Alzheimer’s Association mobilized millions of Americans in the Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk®; now the Alzheimer’s Association is continuing to lead the way with Walk to End Alzheimer’s®.

· One in 10 people age 65 and older (10 percent) has Alzheimer’s dementia.
· An estimated 5.7 million Americans, including 170,000 North Carolina residents, are living with Alzheimer’s, a number estimated to grow to as many as 16 million by year 2050.
· Almost two-thirds of Americans with Alzheimer’s are women.
· African-Americans are about twice as likely to have Alzheimer’s or other dementias as older whites.
· Hispanics are about one and one-half times as likely to have Alzheimer’s or other dementias as older whites.
