Haywood Community College’s workforce continuing education department is offering a wide variety of courses for the month of October. There’s something for everyone, including courses that allow you to earn a credential to courses for the hobbyist.
Defensive Driving will be held Monday, October 1, 6-10 p.m. Cost is $75. This course keeps all drivers safe on the road.
OBD II Safety Inspection will be held Tuesday, October 2 and Thursday, October 4. Cost is $75. OBD II Emissions will be held Tuesday, October 16 and Thursday, October 18. Cost is $75. These courses are designed to prepare auto technicians and service personnel as OBD emission inspectors for motor vehicles.
Basic Welding will be held October 5 through 19, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Cost is $125. Learn basic welding skills to help get you started in a lifelong career.
Notary Public will be held Saturday, October 6, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Cost is $75 plus required textbook. This course covers the qualifications, procedures and certification for becoming a notary.
Introduction to MasterCam: Basic Drawing and Part Programming will be held October 6 through 20, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Cost is $70. This course will be an introduction to MasterCam programming for CNC equipment.
Introduction to HAAS Controls will be held October 6 through 20, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Cost is $71.25. Learn HAAS CNC control panels and how they interact with the machine.
Water Jet Art Projects will be held October 6 through 20, 8 a.m. through 4:30 p.m. Cost is $225. Learn how to use a water jet cutting system for creative designs and projects.
Introduction to Stained Glass will be held Tuesdays, October 9 through December 11, 2-4:30 p.m. Cost is $170. The course will focus on beginning students & take them through the complete copper foil stained glass process.
Advanced Weaving Techniques will be held Wednesdays, October 17 through November 14, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Cost is $169. This class is for anyone who has taken a beginning weaving class and would like to know more.
Mountain Dance will be held Thursdays, October 25 through November 29, 6-7:30 p.m. Cost is $110. This lively, energetic and fun class will teach participants several mountain dance techniques and the history of where and how these types of dances came to be in this region as well as the music behind it.
Drawing: Foundations will be held Fridays, October 26 through December 7, 9:30 a.m.-12 p.m. Cost is $135. This course focuses on translating three dimensions to a two-dimensional surface.
Introduction to Painting: Acrylics will be held on Fridays, October 26 through December 7, 1-4 p.m. Cost is $135. In this course students will learn the basics of painting with acrylic paints.
Intermediate Painting: Pet Portrait will be held Fridays, October 26 through December 7, 4:30-7:30 p.m. Cost is $135. This fun course is for the person who has some experience with painting and wants to capture their favorite furry friend.
Instrument Building: Guitars will be held Mondays and Wednesdays, October 29 through November 19, 5-9 p.m. Cost is $205. Students will learn all the skills necessary to design and construct an acoustic guitar.
In addition, HCC’s workforce continuing education department offers Community First Aid and CPR classes the third Tuesday of each month 6-10:00 p.m. HCC is Haywood County’s American Heart Association Training Center.
