Press release from the Asheville Gay Men’s Chorus:
Asheville Gay Men’s Chorus has tapped Butch Thompson to be the organization’s first Executive Director. Thompson joined the chorus as a singer in 2015 and has served as President of its board of directors since 2017. His tenure as president has seen the organization achieve impressive growth in visibility, funding, and audience size.
Thompson came to Asheville following a long and successful career in non profit management in Atlanta, GA. He brings a wealth of experience in marketing, program development, and fundraising. He volunteers for several organizations in Western North Carolina, and currently serves on the board of directors of the Blue Ridge Pride Center.
Susan Wilson, vice president of the chorus board, said, “We are excited and proud to hire Butch Thompson as our first Executive Director. His demonstrated ability to spark the chorus’s recent growth makes him the ideal person to lead us as we look forward to even greater engagement with the community in Asheville and surrounding areas.”
Founded in 1998, Asheville Gay Men’s Chorus tells the stories of our community through music. Its concerts and annual cabaret event regularly attract capacity audiences. In addition, the chorus participates annually in the Downtown Asheville Holiday Parade, the Asheville Mardi Gras parade, and Blue Ridge Pride. The chorus will present “From Riots to Rights,” a concert commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, at Diana Wortham Theatre on June 28. Tickets will be available at the theatre’s box office or online at www.dwtheatre.com.
