Carolina Brotherhood Ride travels through Henderson County

Press release from Henderson County Rescue Squad:

On Saturday, June 29 the Carolina Brotherhood will cycle through Henderson County as they finish a weeklong charity ride to honor the fallen who lost their lives in the line of duty in the Carolinas. The last leg of their journey will take them from Greenville, S.C. to Burnsville, N.C. They are scheduled to make two rest stops in Henderson County and the public is encouraged to show their support of this worthy cause and cheer on the riders at either of the stops or along the ride route.

Their first rest stop will be at approximately 9 a.m. at the Green River Fire & Rescue Department located at 1524 Old US 25 Hwy in Zirconia. After this rest stop, they will travel Old Hwy 25 to Hwy 225 to King St. and onto Asheville Hwy. There will be some delays as well as traffic control along these roadways in order to protect the riders. Their next rest stop will be at approximately 10:30am at the Henderson County Emergency Services Center located at 2529 Asheville Hwy in Hendersonville.

The Carolina Brotherhood cycling charity event was formed in 2012 after the line of duty death of Captain Jeff Bowen with the Asheville Fire Department. Their mission is to provide emotional and financial support for the families of those who lost their lives in the line of duty from the Carolinas. They are a cycling group comprised entirely of firefighters, police officers, and emergency personnel from North and South Carolina.

The 2019 ride is a total of 607 miles broken down over 6 days. Day 1, June 24: Windsor, NC to Goldsboro – 94 miles
Day 2, June 25: Goldsboro to Wilmington – 93 miles
Day 3, June 26: Wilmington, NC to Marion, SC – 106 miles Day 4, June 27: Marion to Lancaster – 101 miles

Day 5, June 28: Lancaster to Greenville – 117 miles
Day 6, June 29: Greenville, SC to Burnsville, NC – 96 miles

This year’s ride honors 16 individuals who lost their lives in the line of duty in 2017. Below is a list of those individuals and their department.
