In response to overwhelming demand for the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, MAHEC and UNC Asheville have decided to host an additional walk-in COVID-19 vaccine clinic this Saturday, May 15, from 9:00 am to noon at the Reuter Center on the campus of UNC Asheville at 1 Campus View Road. No appointment is needed to receive a vaccine. The J&J vaccine provides full coverage after two weeks with just one dose, eliminating the need for a follow-up appointment.
While the number of vaccine providers has increased across the region, those offering the one-dose J&J vaccine are still limited.
“We were delighted by the number of people who came out to get their vaccine at our last walk-in clinic,” shares Dr. Bryan Hodge. “Folks appreciated the one-and-done convenience of the J&J vaccine and the ability to walk in without an appointment. The process is quick and convenient, and people leave feeling better knowing they have an extra layer of protection against COVID-19.”
Like all other COVID-19 vaccines, the Johnson & Johnson vaccine may produce temporary reactions like a sore arm and feeling tired or achy for a day or two but most symptoms can be alleviated with over-the-counter medications. Severe side effects are extremely rare and treatable. COVID-19, on the other hand, can lead to severe illness, hospitalization and even death.
