Asheville Police arrest suspect in Sunday afternoon homicide

Press release from the Asheville Police Department:

Asheville Police Department Detectives charged a suspect with murder just hours after he shot and killed a man in the Hillcrest area Sunday afternoon.

APD Patrol Officers were dispatched to a report of a gunshot wound around 3:20 p.m. Sunday at the 100 block of Atkinson St.  When they arrived, officers found 21-year-old Keith Anthony Mosely, Jr. with multiple gunshot wounds.  Mosley was transported to Mission Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

APD’s Criminal Investigation Division Detectives, Forensic Technicians, and members of the Public Housing Unit quickly began their investigation.

Detectives developed 23-year-old Kevion Martese Edgerton as a suspect; not long after, Edgerton turned himself into the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office and was charged with First Degree Murder.

This is the sixth confirmed homicide in Asheville for 2022, the fourth by firearm.  Next of kin notifications have been made.

Asheville Police thank the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office for providing critical support in the investigation.

Detectives are also asking if anyone has any information about this case to contact APD at (828) 252-1110.  Or you send an anonymous tip using the TIP2APD smartphone application (search “Asheville PD” in your app store) or by texting TIP2APD to 847411
