Press release from Buncombe County:
Buncombe County has nearly 50 different boards and commissions where community members can shape how their local government provides programs and services, from the library system, planning and zoning, school capital funding, historic resources, justice resources, and much more! Many community members can participate on these boards, actively working with the County to prioritize its programming; however, many barriers keep other residents from participating.
Buncombe County is conducting a survey to help determine what barriers there are for our community members to participate and serve on boards and commissions and what it can do to help our residents overcome those barriers. You may be a resident who wants to get more involved, but you have to focus on your work hours, your family, your budget, disabilities, or many other reasons. While there is no one-size-fits-all solution to overcoming these barriers, some ideas include a cash stipend or a voucher that explicitly supports your quality of life. Buncombe County wants to know so it can work on policies and procedures to help inspire community members to make their voices part of shaping the county around them.
