Job seekers of all experience levels are encouraged to attend the WNC Career Expo, which will take place Wednesday, October 25, 2023, from 11 AM to 4 PM at the WNC Agricultural Center’s Davis Event Center, located at 761 Boylston Highway in Fletcher. The WNC Career Expo is free and open to all job seekers with no registration required.
“If you’ve been disconnected from a job or career path or are ready to explore new opportunities, don’t miss the WNC Career Expo,” said Nathan Ramsey, Director of Mountain Area Workforce Development Board. “We’ll have 100 employers from around the region and free resources to help job seekers feel confident and prepared.”
Job seekers will be able to learn about rewarding opportunities in various industries at the WNC Career Expo. More than 85% of participating employers say they are hiring to fill at least one job paying $19 per hour or more. Many participating employers plan to interview candidates for available roles on site, and several employers in industries like advanced manufacturing and hospitality can hire on the spot. Job seekers can view a list of participating employers here.
The WNC Career Expo welcomes job seekers experiencing significant barriers to employment. Most participating employers say they are willing to hire candidates who are returning to the community from incarceration. Inclusive Hiring Partners, a resource to help close the opportunity gap in Buncombe County by connecting people experiencing employment barriers with rewarding local careers, will be on site to connect with job seekers.
RESOURCES FOR JOB SEEKERS
The event will include free resources for job seekers like resumé reviews and interview preparation support with experts fromNCWorks Career Centers, free onsite printing for job seekers interested in sharing resumé copies with employers, and information on how to conduct a local childcare search or apply for a childcare subsidy from experts from the YWCA of Asheville. No appointments or registrations are required to access these resources.
Career readiness leaders from NC Works Asheville will also host free workshops to help prepare job seekers to engage with employers. Workshops will be held in person inside the Career Expo event space at 10:45 AM, 12:15 PM, and 1:30 PM.
Dislocated workers and out-of-school youth can visit the Mountain Area Workforce Development Board at Booth 501 to learn about paid On-the-Job Training opportunities.
The WNC Career Expo is presented by the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce and Mountain Area Workforce Development Board, with additional support from A-B Technical Community College, Asheville Radio Group, Bojangles of WNC, iHeart Media, Asheville Radio Group, and Advanced Business Equipment.
