UPDATE: Blue Ridge Parkway reopened between milepost 393.6 and 405 after shooting investigation

UPDATE: Blue Ridge Parkway law enforcement rangers have cleared the shooting scene, and the road has reopened. The single shooting victim is a 19-year-old male, who is in critical condition at Mission Hospital.

The investigation is active and ongoing. The National Park Service Investigative Services Branch is leading the investigation with support from Blue Ridge Parkway law enforcement rangers and the Buncombe County Sheriff’s office.

At approximately 2:02 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, Blue Ridge Parkway law enforcement rangers were notified of a shooting near milepost 398.

Currently, the Parkway is closed between milepost 393.6 and 405, as the investigation is active and ongoing.

A single shooting victim has been transported to a local hospital and early investigations indicate this is a targeted crime and there is no threat to the public.
