Breakfast for dinner: One of West Asheville’s most successful breakfast/lunch joints is now offering dinner. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, the Sunny Point CafZ’ and Bakery is now serving such goods as smoked duck with blackberry barbecue sauce, sesame-seared mountain trout and veggie options. Fear not, Sunny Point breakfast devotees: You can still enjoy your omelets, hash (the legal variety), and other such morning fare — no matter what time it is. For more information, call 252-0055.
Pre-harvest party: After the success of this year’s organic growing season, the North Carolina Cooperative Extension sees good reason to celebrate. On Tuesday, Aug. 30, the organization will host the Third Annual North Carolina Organic Pre-Harvest Tour and Dinner. The tour, taken by bus, will include stops at the Hendersonville Community Co-op, Granddad’s Apples family farm and the Windy Ridge Organic Vegetables’ fields. The evening will be capped off with a gourmet organic dinner prepared by Kenmure Country Club executive chef Steve Adams, followed by an apple wine tasting and after-party. What a day! For reservations, contact Sandy Pridgen at 697-4891 no later than August 26.
Relaxed Reader: West Asheville’s Relaxed Reader recently held a farewell brunch and Bloody Mary party for former owner Jonah Lipsky, who has sold the funky Haywood Road cafZ’ and bookstore to pursue his musical career as J Wail. As Lipsky recently wrote in an e-mail to Xpress, “it is a true dream for me to play in a field of people with the moon shining bright. I am trying to accomplish this with a one man band style.” Rock on, Jonah. Meanwhile, the new owners are changing the establishment’s name to Outspoken and plan to reopen after Labor Day.
