October is a busy month for Asheville’s The Weinhaus. On Wednesday, Oct. 11, the store will join chef Paul Brady and La Caterina for a multicourse wine dinner beginning at 7 p.m. Cost is $55, all-inclusive. On Tuesday, Oct. 17, it will will join Australian wine importer Deborah Gray at Zambra for a tapas-and-wine extravaganza beginning at 7 p.m. Cost is $55 all-inclusive. Then, from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21, The Weinhaus (at 86 Patton Ave.) will provide a free Italian wine tasting. For more information, call the store at 254-6453.
A benefit for Sunburst Trout will be held at the Westgate location of Earth Fare on Friday, Sept. 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. The event will feature a tasting of organic wines with a selection of light hors d’oeuvres. A knowledgeable wine rep will be on hand to answer questions and help you pick out the perfect wine for your next meal. A $5 donation is suggested to benefit Sunburst Trout, a local business since 1948 that recently sustained extensive fire damage. For more information, call 253-7656.
Celine and Company Catering has a new executive chef. Kim Lloyd, former executive chef of Pawleys Plantation Golf Resort and the award-winning Thoroughbreds Restaurant of Myrtle Beach, has joined the celebrated catering company, bringing with her more than 16 years of culinary and business expertise. “I love helping people celebrate once-in-a-lifetime moments,” says Lloyd, who also looks forward to bringing a little “coastal cuisine” to the mountains.
