The Mad Divas junior roller derby team is a fierce bunch. Rather than sitting politely on the sidelines, girls ages 12-17 fight their way through each bout with as much passion as their older counterparts.
But roller derby isn’t cheap. In order to don skates and battle the competition, the group needs funds. The season starts in March, so now’s the time to build up the coffers.
Are you curious to know what derby girls are like off the track? You can meet them in person at Sunny Point Café this weekend. Jammers, blockers and pivots will take off their helmets and raise some money for their upcoming season with a pancake dinner.
The dinner will be held at Sunny Point Café, 626 Haywood Road in West Asheville on Sunday, Feb. 19 from 5:30-8 p.m. $10 includes pancakes, pork or veggie sausage, fresh fruit and tea or coffee.
If you or a young lady in your life want to join the Mad Divas Junior Derby team, registration will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25th from 1-3 p.m. at Tarwheels skating rink in Asheville. It’s a great way for girls to gain confidence, make new friends and increase their athletic prowess.
Go Divas!
