Local all star jazz supergroup Preston Cate Group is set to play a groove/funk.jazz fusion show at One Stop this Friday, July 6.
Front man and guitarist Cate (of Vertigo Jazz Project) tells this anecdote about his start in music: “When I was 15, I went into my parent’s room and looked in my father’s closet. I saw a guitar in the corner next to a couple of shotguns. I was immediately intrigued.” By the guitar, that is. Not the guns.
Seventeen years later, Cate is still honing his craft. His latest band includes drummer Jeff Sipe (Dave Matthews Band, Leftover Salmon and Aquarium Rescue Unit), Jacob Rodrguez on saxophone and Justin Ray on trumpet (both of Michael Buble’s touring band, stephaniesid and The Archrivals), keyboardist Chuck Lichtenberger and bassist Zack Page (both of stephaniesid and the Archrivals).
The show kicks off at 10 p.m., $5 cover. Xpress will give away a pair of tickets to this show on Thursday, July 5 in the noon hour. Follow us on Facebook to win.
