Terpsicorps Theatre of Dance and Center Stage Dance Studio are teaming up for the May 6 production, The Muses of Terpsicorps, Stars of Tomorrow. This is the third annual such showcase, which puts young (eighth grade through high school) local dancers in the spotlight.
According to a press release, nine pre-professional dancers “have committed to months of classes and rehearsals in order to put on this exciting mixed repertory program.” Former participants have gone on to “UNC School of the Arts, the Boston Conservatory, the dance program at George Washington University, the prestigious Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet high school program and a career in commercial dance in Los Angeles.” One of this year’s students has been offered a scholarship to the apprenticeship program at N.Y.‘s Joffrey Ballet.
This year’s program includes “Run Ragged” and neo-classical works by Heather Maloy along with excerpts from traditional works, “Sleeping Beauty” and “Napoli.” The performance is Sunday, May 6, 7:30 p.m. at Diana Wortham Theatre. Tickets are $12.
