It’s a plaid, plaid world
While the Scots may not be renowned for their fashion sense (well, they did give us kilts, Harris tweed and the very stylish Sean Connery), revelers at the recently held Scottish Highland Games in Hendersonville proved there’s plenty to be done with plaid. This week, Top Drawer presents variations on the tartan theme, ranging from the historically accurate kilts and sporrans, to the more modern miniskirts and newsboy caps.

Designer Kelledy Francis shows her latest work at Of the Sky: MFA Thesis Show. The exhibit runs through Friday, Dec. 8, at Western Carolina University’s Fine Art Museum. “The dresses all fit into a theme that is my version of Alice in Wonderland: It’s about a trip to the sky, and encounters with birds and pterodactyls and a sexy pilot,” Francis explains. “All of the stories are illustrated, and the clothing is what the characters in the story wear.” For more information, call 227-3591.
