Direct from Philadelphia, the duo of vocalist Shari Bolar and songwriter Aleks Martray have been performing under the name Grandchildren since 2008. Self-described purveyors of “orchestral pop with tight beats,” the group has explored new sounds with each recorded release, building from the lo-fi Everlasting (2010) to the symphonic-leaning Golden Age (2013) and into the more pop-focused musings of ZUNI (2015). With a self-titled album — complete with an earthbound, balloon-clutching astronaut cover photo — out in the world as of Feb. 1, Bolar and Martray turn yet another corner and lean into the soul-centric harmonies that have become the centerpiece of their music in recent years. These sounds are set to fill One World Brewing’s downtown location on Wednesday, March 20, at 9 p.m. Free to attend. oneworldbrewing.com. Photo by Ava Gupta
