What was once a derogatory term for a woman of questionable repute is now the band name for a pair of brothers — producer/guitarist Matt Hill and drummer Mark Hill. The Floozies’ take on contemporary funk includes samples, talk box, plenty of nods to psychedelia and party anthem savvy. “You know the brothers could easily kill you with bass, but instead they keep it funky fresh,” writes one blogger. “The samples on ‘Stuntin’ are pristine and on point, flawlessly placed like a Monet painting displayed in a New York gallery,” writes another.
The Floozies release all of their music for free through their website — and they tour, as well. Which brings the duo to The Orange Peel on Saturday, Sept. 13. 9 p.m. show, Exmag and Marvel Years also perform. Tickets are $12 advance / $15 day of show, or you can just win a pair here.
To win: Name your favorite Floozies track in the comments field. The contest is open through noon on Tuesday, Sept. 9. A winner will be selected at random and announced shortly after.
