From a press release:
The Alba Method is a purely physical technique for emotion regulation, informed by scientific research and developed by a neuroscientist and research psychologist. Laura Bond, a certified master teacher of the Alba Method and Professor at UNC Asheville will lead the workshop on the university campus from June 10-18, 2016. She will be accompanied by several Alba Method instructors and certified Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement teacher, Lavinia Plonka.
Learning the Alba Method allows anyone to express basic universal emotions clearly, with the possibility of summoning these emotions and modulating their expressive and subjective components at will. An Alba training offers participants the opportunity to learn about limiting habits, increase expressive range, and acquire methods for calming, centering, and controlling their emotions. Effector Patterns are the foundations of Alba Method training and are precise breathing and muscle manipulation patterns learned in gradual developmental exercises that help a person control and regulate emotions.
The Feldenkrais Method® is a research based method that helps create new patterns, new “neural pathways” through subtle, sophisticated movements that teach people how to literally reorganize themselves – improve range of motion, reduce pain, and live a fuller life. Feldenkrais lessons provide extremely safe and pleasant learning experiences for any level of movement ability.
Laura Bond and Lavinia Plonka have co-taught several workshops in the past where they combined these two methods to help participants cultivate their expressive capabilities while also gaining new insights into limiting habits.
Three phases of study are available, allowing participants to select the amount of study that best matches personal and professional interests and needs. Appropriate for any adult interested in personal development, as well as somatic educators, life coaches, therapists, healthcare specialists, and performers.
Calming – (Friday, June 10 – Saturday, June 11) Receive 12 hours on how the Alba Method and Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement technique provide somatic tools for calming, centering, de-stressing, and neutralizing negative emotions.
Controlling – (Friday, June 10 – Tuesday, June 14th) Receive 30 hours of instruction including the Calming Phase and learning to access, embody, control, and release emotions easily, without psychological methods.
Connecting – (Thursday, June 16 – Saturday, June 18th) Receive 18 hours of advanced instruction (after attending the Controlling Phase) on Alba and its application to self-expression, communication, and performance methods.
Sign up for all three phases of study (Calming, Controlling, and Connecting) and save on registration fees. Full time students are eligible for a 30% reduced registration fee.
