Press release from Buncombe County Government:
North Carolina’s in-person early voting period began today, and 4,490 Buncombe voters took advantage of the County’s 12 early voting sites. More than two dozen residents took advantage of same day registration, pushing the total vote county to more than 4,500 once the registrations are processed. Daily voter turnout is posted online at www.buncombecounty.org/vote.
“We are thrilled with the turnout for early voting,” said Election Services Director Corinne Duncan. “As you might expect, we’re pretty passionate about ensuring that everyone who can vote has that opportunity, so a turnout like today’s is really invigorating. It was especially fun to see first-hand the enthusiasm over our new ‘I voted’ sticker, designed by 10-year-old future voter Polly Crutchfield.”
In the 2022 Primary Election, about 45% of voters chose to take advantage of early voting, with 51% choosing to vote on Election Day and 2.98% choosing to vote absentee by mail. To view voting patterns going back to the 2013 election, visit the Voting Patterns Dashboard.
Early voting runs through Nov. 5. Please note there is no early voting scheduled for Oct. 22-23. This year, voters will notice two additonal early voting locations, and a new location at Friendship Community Center. The Wesley Grant Southside Center is still undergoing a park expansion, so voters may see construction activity and equipment on the premises. Please take care at this location. Voters with mobility limitations can take advantage of curbside voting at any early voting site, and absentee by mail ballots can also be returned to any early voting location.
Check out the Wait Map before you head out for Early Voting
Voters did experience lines at some of the busier locations. During scheduled early voting, Buncombe County offers a tool that tells you in real time how many voters are in line at each location. The wait map will only be available during Early Voting. Check it out here before you head out the door. For little to no wait, head out to Wesley Grant Southside Center, Friendship Community Center, or the Elections Warehouse.
