PRESS RELEASE:

This week, Aloft Asheville Downtown, a McKibbon Hospitality property, sponsored its third move-in through Homeward Bound, supporting the transition of people experiencing homelessness to permanent housing. The Aloft team collected items such as furniture, household supplies and toiletries, delivered them to the home, and helped the individual set up their new permanent residence.

“We are proud to support Homeward Bound’s mission of ending homelessness in Asheville and Western North Carolina by sponsoring move-ins for local individuals and families,” said David McCartney, general manager, Aloft Asheville Downtown. “Addressing homelessness is critical to building a stronger community, and this will continue to be one of the key issues that the Aloft team donates our time and resources to supporting.”

In addition to moving people experiencing homelessness into permanent housing, Homeward Bound provides the support they need to stay there through the Housing First model, an effective, cost-efficient, sustainable and humane intervention to homelessness. Since 2006, Homeward Bound has moved more than 1,400 men, women, and children out of cars, camps and shelters into permanent housing across Western North Carolina. Today, the non-profit maintains an 89 percent retention rate in housing.

“We are very grateful that Aloft Asheville Downtown continues to support Homeward Bound. They are an excellent model for how local businesses can support non-profits to help them further their mission. Most importantly, Aloft is helping more individuals and families have a place to call their own,” said Beth Russo, director of communications and annual campaign for Homeward Bound.

In addition to helping the homeless population, Aloft Asheville Downtown supports local causes that benefit the humane treatment of animals, youth organizations, the environment, and arts and cultural groups. During 2015, the hotel’s team of 55 associates participated in 15 volunteer events, benefitting more than 10 local non-profit organizations. Earlier this year, Aloft Asheville Downtown was recognized for their commitment to volunteerism by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide as the recipient of the 2016 Starwood Cares for the Community Hotel Volunteer Award for the North American region. After being chosen as one of three finalists from more than 800 full service and specialty select brand hotels, 3,000 of the company’s associates voted to select Aloft Asheville Downtown as the winner of this prestigious award.
