Archetype Brewing to open taproom in former Habitat Brewing space

Press release from Archetype Brewing Co.:

Archetype will be moving into the space recently vacated by Habitat Tavern & Commons, next
door to Asheville staple Moog Music, and block down the hill from the Merrimon Avenue Whole Foods. The second location will provide a space close to downtown focused on an intimate, comfortable beer-drinking experience, reminiscent of a neighborhood Belgian pub.

The 4,400 sq. foot space is handsomely decorated with wood floors, a wooden bar, and low
lighting. With few cosmetic changes to the building planned, it will retain the same rustic feel
that Habitat Tavern and Commons so lovingly created. Archetype also plans to re-vamp the
back patio behind the building, adding more space to enjoy their beers along with regular rotating food truck options.

Bottle conditioning and an expansion of Archetype’s barrel aging operation will also be moving
to the downtown location. With more room, they will be adding new barrels to their collection,
allowing for more variety in their beer offerings. Future plans also allow for a pilot batch brewing system and a sour program, while staying small in volume and maintaining dedication to the craft.

“We’re looking forward to providing a unique community space as opposed to just focusing on
increasing our brewing capacity. We’ve never intended to grow into a big production machine.
This new space allows us to grow our beer repertoire and stay focused on our community via
meaningful growth.” – Steven Anan, Co-Owner and Head Brewer

Divided into two rooms, the space will also serve as an event venue for smaller, more intimate
gatherings. The venue will be available for rental as soon as the doors open.

“We’ve identified a need for smaller, more intimate venues in Asheville, and we’re excited to be
able to offer this so close to downtown, with great beer, for a truly Asheville vibe.” – Brad
Casanova, Co-Owner

They aim to have the space open for business within a month. Beer-lovers will find 12 taps of
Archetype brews, wine, and cider, along with great events and a comfortable atmosphere. Of
course, Archetype will keep their West Asheville location for their brewing operations. They will
continue to have their regular and special events there, including the September Race to the
Taps, hosted by Mix 96.5.

Archetype Brewing was founded in 2017, serving up American and Belgian-style beers with a
focus on creating complex, mindful, living beer. Offering a wide range of brews, there’s a beer
for everyone, from straight forward lagers to intricate barrel-aged saisons. The original taproom
and brewery are nestled on the corner of Beacham’s Curve in East West Asheville, and provides
an open space for the Asheville community to gather and enjoy good company and great
beer. Archetype offers a variety of regular events in the taproom including trivia, live music, and
sports viewing parties. Archetype beer can be found at restaurants and taprooms throughout
the Asheville area, and packaged beers can be found in select craft beer retailers throughout
the state.
