I’m excited to announce that we will be hosting a Reopening Stakeholders Task Force Meeting next Thursday, Sept. 17, from 5:15-6:30 p.m.
Due to social distancing guidelines, in-person attendance will be limited to just those that make up the task force. However, we invite all stakeholders to watch the meeting live on Asheville City Schools’ Facebook Page.The task force consists of representatives from across our Cougar Family, including students, teachers, staff members, principals, parents, government officials and medical professionals, as well as representation from the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce.
During the meeting, the Task Force will review current COVID-19 metrics and trends, remote and virtual learning progress as well as lessons learned from surrounding districts who began school with, or recently converted to, a hybrid (Option B) program. The agenda will then focus on an open discussion about opportunities and challenges as we progress through the school year beyond these first nine weeks of remote learning. Please take note that, although we anticipate the meeting will be rich in conversation, a formal decision about whether Asheville City Schools will continue under Plan C or begin its transition to Plan B is not part of the Sept. 17 agenda.
A final decision about the second nine weeks will be made by the Asheville City Board of Education following a recommendation by Dr. Gene Freeman during their meeting of Monday, Oct. 5 . As a reminder, the first quarter of the 2020-2021 school year ends on Friday, Oct. 16.
