Asheville Community Theatre announces COVID-19 cancellations

Press release from Asheville Community Theatre:

The health and safety of everyone in our community is a top priority at ACT. From our patrons to our students, our volunteers to our staff, we want everyone to feel good – and so we have some cancellations to share with you.

Governor Cooper has recommended that gatherings of more than 100 people be postponed. With that in mind, we have cancelled performances of:

  • Broadway Bootcamp Spring Showcase (March 13-14, 2020)
  • Great Falls (March 13-15, 2020)

ACT staff will reconvene on Monday, March 16 to make an assessment about upcoming performances, rehearsals, classes, and auditions.

This is a heartbreaking time for us – as it is for so many others – and we so appreciate the support you’ve shown us as we try to make the best decisions we can for the community we love. These decisions impact our staff, our volunteers, our children, and our audiences, and we are looking to find ways to be in community without having to be in a room next to each other!

We will communicate any changes to you via e-mail as well as through updates to our website and social media pages.

If you have tickets to one of this weekend’s performances, you may choose to:

  • exchange your tickets for another performance of your choosing
  • donate your ticket purchase to the theatre as a tax-deductible donation OR
  • request a refund for your ticket purchase

If you are financially able, we invite you to donate your ticket purchase. As you can imagine, this will be devastating for arts organizations who rely on ticket sales to stay afloat. Your donation will help ACT to weather this unfathomable storm and be ready to be here for the community when we’re able to be back together again.

We ask for your patience as we navigate this process. Our Box Office staff will contact you directly on Friday, March 13 to make your arrangements.

  • Performances of Broadway Bootcamp Spring Showcase (March 13-14, 2020) have been cancelled.
  • Youth Acting, Youth Improv, Youth Filmmaking, Urinetown Performance Class are cancelled for Saturday, March 14, 2020
  • Essentials of Acting taught by Tom Chalmers will meet for their final class on Saturday, March 14, 2020.
  • If you are enrolled in an Adult Improv class taught by Tom Chalmers, you will receive an additional email shortly.

We will make another decision on Monday, March 16 regarding future classes and Education performances.

We will communicate any changes to you via e-mail as well as through updates to our website and social media pages.
