Asheville Police Department encourages residents to protect personal belongings

Press release from Asheville Police Department:

The Asheville Police Department (APD) would like to remind everyone how important it is to protect personal belongings. An unlocked vehicle is one of the easiest targets for a thief. Even locked vehicles are tempting if valuables are in plain sight.

Don’t be an easy target. Follow some simple steps to help protect your valuables:

  • Whenever possible, do not leave valuable items in your car
  • If you must leave valuable items in your car, make sure they are not visible
  • The trunk is the safest place for valuables
  • Roll up your windows and lock your doors
  • Park in well-lit areas whenever possible
  • Report any suspicious person(s) looking in vehicles or pulling on door handles immediately by calling 828-252-1110.
  • To further secure your car and home, never leave your car running and never leave your keys in your car.

In an effort to reduce thefts of opportunity, APD officers often go out on foot in areas where vehicle break-ins are likely to remind people to secure their vehicles or to say “good job” to those who do. They do this by leaving a “Secure It, Lock it, Protect it” form on windshields. These are not tickets and they are not tracked. They are simply asking our community to help us keep our community safe.
