Blue Ridge Parkway hosts “Opt Outside” on Black Friday

Press release:

On Friday, November 27, 2015, the Blue Ridge Parkway will join REI’s ‘Opt Outside’ campaign by holding an Instameet at Craggy Pinnacle (Milepost 364.1) from 2:00-4:00 PM. Visitors are encouraged to bring their families and spend time outdoors enjoying the Parkway.

Hikes will begin at 2:00 p.m. and 3:00p.m. at Craggy Dome Parking Lot. Craggy Pinnacle Trail is 0.7 miles one way, and offers 360 degree panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. Hikes will take approximately 45 minutes, and will be led by park staff. Information about the Blue Ridge Parkway and the National Park Service Centennial as well as photo opportunities will be available both at the trailhead and the summit.

Parking is available at Craggy Dome Parking Overlook. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be cancelled. Those who plan to attend should check the real-time closures map at http://www.nps.gov/maps/blri/road-closures/ and the Parkway’s Facebook site at https://www.facebook.com/BlueRidgeNPS for updates. If the section of the Parkway around Craggy is closed visitors are encouraged to get out and enjoy the open sections of the Parkway or another local park in the area.
